General ponderings and envelope stuffing news.

Well here I am, propped up in bed with my laptop warming/overheating my leg. Its before midnight. This is what happens when one starts working more than just saturdays, one starts wearing slippers, listening to radio 2 and going to bed early. Good times.

Anywho, I guess its been a fairly long time since I wrote on this, to be perfectly honest I had totally forgotten about it until it was drawn to my attention today by the male contingent of 'The Holidays' [well worth a listen, remember that name].

There is so much to catch up on that I shall attempt it in a short set of bulleted points:

  1. I chose Exeter University, finally.
  2. It was the best decision ever.
  3. I actually joined [and have thus far stuck at] the Canoe club. haha. crazy.
  4. Feeling mildly devoid of creative expression decided to create a Knitting club. [There is an interesting story here involving a girl named Emily and a train. But I shan't explain that right now.]
  5. I still hiccup every day

That was nowhere near a catch up really but it shall have to do for this late hour of the day.

So at the current moment it is the 'Easter holiday'. Though to be perfectly honest to name it a 'holiday' is a contradiction in terms; i'm sure there has never been anything less like a holiday, unless one has a penchant for envelope stuffing.

Anyhow envelope stuffing and all i'm strangely enjoying it; I met a most peculiar yet spectacular boy whilst sticking 2nd class stamps on at least a million envelopes. I know, I hear you, people just dont meet peculiar yet spectacular boys whilst envelope stuffing. But the fact is, I did. He was/is essentially the very definition of art, he has just graduated from a fine art degree at Goldsmiths and is currently continuing with his art whilst actually living in his studio [how great is that!?] ...Ive completely lost track of where I was going with this, there was a particularly uninspiring song I had to change... Oh yes I know, he was discussing how these mundane and brain sapping jobs are all worthwhile in the end because everything we do makes us who we are. This was amongst some comment about how we were 'connected' to the addressee's on the envelopes as we were physically aiding in a tangible object they were to recieve in their life etc etc. But through the cloud of powder paint that practically puffed out of his mouth everytime he spoke, the boy had a point.

I came to his conclusion that though mundane and pointlessly mind-numbing, its things like this that shape us. I think I will appreciate other jobs I do far more now for example. I also like to think that I could have made even a teeny tiny bit of difference to the people I have met; every little helps as Tesco would say.

A few other points of news for your enjoyment/entertainment:

  • I have nearly finished knitting my cardigan things. [thats probably not very exciting for anyone but me, oh well.]
  • After a challenge to learn chords on the piano by a certain David Salisbury [who in turn should be creating some kind of knitted item] I have been practicing alot and it is coming on quite well I feel.
  • I found out yesterday that my step-nephew cut off all my 3yr-old step-neice's hair. haha. This is a tragic story involving the loss of some long and very beautiful blonde ringlets but nevertheless one cant help but find it really quite funny.

I think I have rambled enough for one night but I'm sure I shall be back for more very soon. Peace out my friends,

Nicola

xx
